The latest news from our conservation teams.

A rubbish problem

This week, we have been celebrating the marine and coastal wildlife of Essex for National Marine Week. However, we are continually facing the problem of plastic pollution. Our Coastal Ranger, Adam, has collected over 100 balloons this month alone. Balloons have harmful impacts on wildlife so please spread the word and consider how you use them.

The Team Wilder approach

As part of our Nextdoor Nature project, we have been supporting communities to make space for nature. In Basildon, we have been working with Hamelin Trust, who had the fantastic idea of transforming their outdoor space into a sensory garden. With the help of volunteers from Amazon, the garden is looking colourful and ready for wildlife.

Moth sightings

Last week was Moth Week, a week dedicated to raising awareness of these special pollinators who often get overlooked. For those that took part on our moth and butterfly ID course at Abberton Reservoir Nature Discovery Park, we identified over 60 species of moth in our trap. Here's some of the sightings our conservation team have shared in the last few weeks.
