We have lots of dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies around the wildflower and grassland areas including Ruddy darter, Common darter, Small heath, Common blue, Meadow brown, Gatekeeper, Small tortoiseshell and Clouded yellow. The reserve volunteers continue to maintain the grassland areas, and as the wildflowers start to die off over the next month or so we will look to start cutting the meadow areas to keep them looking great again next summer. We will keep some areas long overwinter to provide a seed source for birds and shelter to hibernating insects and small mammals. Lots of geese and swans are loafing on the shoreline of the reservoir. An osprey has been seen on and off over the last few weeks. I wonder if it will use our osprey platforms that are at various locations around the reservoir.
