Hamelin Trust is a leading Essex based charity for supporting people with learning disabilities and their families. We do this by providing short break services, a resource centre and outreach services within the community and individual's homes. Here's how they've been part of Team Wilder.
As part of our Nextdoor Nature project, Hamelin Trust wanted to transform their unused outdoor back garden space into a sensory garden.
Jo, Hamelin Trust's Activity Lead, said that staff didn't even know they had a garden initially, so to transform this space as an area where people can feel enriched and the garden can support wildlife, would be a worthwhile project.
Together, we talked through the vision for the garden and what the main aims were. Thanks to donations from Amazon, who offered volunteers, funding and tools, the garden was cleared and filled with wildlife-friendly plants, full of colour and texture.
There is still space for more plants to be added, where Trust visitors can help to tend to the garden and be immersed and connected to this new space.
The Trust's Team Wilder staff visit regularly, often to the gardening club days, to see how the group are getting on with their new garden.
