Let's plant millions of wildflowers!
Fragrant and colourful, wildflowers provide insects with food, shelter and places to breed. More wildflowers need to be planted and areas of insect-friendly habitat need to be connected by wildflower corridors so that insects can fly, jump and flutter across the entire county.
This year, we handed out over 6,000 more wildflower seed packets to individuals and families in Essex, helping you to take action for insects in your garden. This will add to the existing 22,000 square metres of wildflower habitat we've created since 2021.
Planted your wildflower patch?
If you've already planted your wildflower seeds, remember to plot them on our virtual Big Wild Seed Sow map below so that we can see the network of new habitats growing across Essex.
In spring, watch your garden transform into a haven for insects.
Insects are incredibly resilient. They can bounce back quickly if we act now. With your help, we can create a wilder Essex.
Keep an eye out for next year's Big Wild Seed Sow to get involved.
