The Wildlife Trusts invited all MPs to meet with the CEO and a young person from their respective Trust at a Parliamentary Reception in Westminster.
Caroline Lucas MP gave an introductory speech, emphasising the need for young people to connect with nature. Then young people spoke about their views on the natural environment, including why we need to safeguard nature for the future.
For Essex, 3 MPs attended the event: John Whittingdale MP for Maldon, Giles Watling MP for Clacton and James Duddridge MP for Rochford and Southend East.
The event highlighted the urgent need for an ambitious Environment Bill to ensure nature’s recovery. Such legislation would not only establish new environmental targets and introduce a strong green watchdog but would also drive the creation of Nature Recovery Networks. These would better protect and connect important places for wildlife and ensure everyone, whatever their background, has access to wildlife-rich natural green space.
Since the event, both John Whittingdale and Giles Watling have pledged their support for an ambitious Environment Act and stated their support for Essex Wildlife Trust.
You too can contact your local MP and let them know that you want a strong Environment Act and that you care about the wildlife and wild places in Essex. Find out more.
