This will be very good for the plants and trees on the nature reserve. Some of our younger trees may have succombed as their roots will not have been deep enough, but mostly the larger trees are looking good. There are lots of berries, sloes, Hazel nuts and acorns showing in the young woodland this year, a great food resource for birds, and small mammals over the next few months. Birds to be seen just now include Black tern, Great white egret, Glossy ibis, Marsh harrier, Peregrine, Yellow wagtail, Common sandpiper, Black-tailed godwit and Wheatear. We are now planning winter works, numbers of trees to plant this year around the reservoir site, and any coppicing and ride clearing work too.
